The world whilst interesting, felt tiny, but that tiny world took forever to navigate. Likewise, despite the idea of interchangable weapons, this added to the repetition, with not even the weapon being able to differentiate characters. And towards the end of the game, you have so many characters with similar movesets you get a whole lot of repetition. The rune system, whilst interesting, creates too much of a niche on certain characters. but when compared to the other games, it's shallow, and worse than that, it's heavily padded with less gameplay, and more time-sinks. I played through Tierkries this year, and it has a whole lot going for it. I hold it in high regard overall, even above some of the main titles I would say. There is also no "Let Go" thing for battle so I didn't know when I could 100% escape from a battle or not. The lack of an actual war battle and duel is also a bummer. The existence of reviving item also makes the game too easy combined with the item-usage system in battle. The game's difficulty can really use some tweak because if you want any item used by a character in battle, it goes from the inventory unlike other titles where you need to sacrifice your defensive gear for it. The characters not having fixed weapon is also of not my liking because I like knowing each of the characters' weapon name aside of how it makes any character prone to being a game-breaker. While at first I think it's SIV all over again, at least they let me form how the party lines up this time, allowing me to have only one person in the front row and three in the back which I find very useful in my experience. However, there are also some things that I'm not too fond of. I feel it's good to have the quest system for recruiting characters although some can invoke some head-scratching when I just had no idea how to do it right. The way they introduce a "giant" race adds a nice new touch as well. The trading system being more influential in this game also gets a thumb up from me. Not to mention how I dig most characters' design except perhaps for some characters with their absurd headwear I can count of. I also find the characterization well-done as well as the character development on some characters. The game's length also suffices enough for my personal enjoyment throughout the run although the lack of NG+ is a bit of a let down. I also didn't feel any sort of pacing issue which we all know is pretty commonly found on Suikoden titles. The only thing I object to is how some of the "rune" spells can be paired to break the game. The whole new "rune" system is interesting and I liked it. I thought the story was decent with a heavily complex mindfuckery element being the key plot there which is something I really love in a JRPG especially on a Suikoden title. Played it on emulator using an undub rom.
